Healdsburg, CA

I got to Healdsburg Saturday evening and stayed through Monday morning. It was nice to stay at the same hotel for two nights in a row and relax after all of the driving. It also gave me time to update the blog, as you can see from all of the posts during that time.

Healdsburg is in the heart of Sonoma Valley, and is a center of winemaking activity. I definitely noticed a marked rivalry between Sonoma and Napa. The restaurant I dined at Saturday evening had an interesting cork policy - you could bring a Sonoma bottle of wine and have it opened free of charge but if you brought a wine from somewhere else you had to pay an uncorking fee.

After updating the blog on Sunday I wandered around the town, which is charming. I stopped in at a few wine shops which represented local vineyards. They had flights of tastings. Unfortunately I had not had any lunch, and so sampled all of this great wine on an empty stomach. There are now a few cases of wine I don't exactly recall making their way to New York...

My hotel is Healdsburg was excellent. It was furnished in a clean and modern style, and I found in through Tablet Hotels. I burst out laughing when I came upon their website Friday evening when looking for lodging - I certainly approve of their slogan!
