San Franciso, CA

Trip miles 5325
Daily miles 80

Monday was fairly busy. Firstly, I had lunch with one of my friends from work who lives in Marin County. We had great fish and chips in Tiburon at a dockside restaurant. The views were great as was the food.

Note the cloud layer in the distance. It really is true that during the summer SF is much colder than the surrounding areas, especially in the morning before the fog burns off. It's called June Gloom apparently, but does make for some pretty striking visuals.

I was thrilled to see the coast and water, which meant that I had in fact actually crossed the country!

I dropped the little car off to be serviced and then spent some time wandering around the city. It was important to see some of the landmarks, such as the Dewey Memorial and iPod advertisement in Union Square.

I like the fact that SF is so hilly that they have to cut holes in the landscape.

Definitely not topography you see in New York except for maybe the Park Avenue underpass.

I had dinner with a friend from London who now lives in SF. We ate at a painfully trendy restaurant in a pretty ropey part which just added to the cred. However, it was certainly sobering to see so many street people, far more than one would see on the streets in NY.
