The USS Sedona (Grand Canyon part 1)

So on Friday Junior Nomad and I did a tour of the Grand Canyon. We were advised that seeing it from the West Rim would be more impressive than driving to the South Rim and peering over the edge or hiking down it.

The first leg was to fly from the USS Sedona (SEZ) to the Western Rim of the Grand Canyon. Here is the Cessna 205 we used to get there. Note 'N' in the tail number which of course stands for 'Nomad.'

The pilots call SEZ (ok KSEZ if you want to be precise) airport the USS Sedona because it sits on top of a mesa and does bear some resemblance to an aircraft carrier.

Needless to say the takeoff off of a cliff was the closest I will get to hang gliding in a while.

We took tons of pictures from the air but very few of them capture the scale of the scenery.

Here is Grand Canyon West (1G4) airport. You'll note it's perched right at the edge of the Canyon and the approach to it is nothing short of spectacular.

We landed here and the proceeded to the next stage of the trip.
